Glenn and Colleen would like to thank the Walkerville Foreshore Committee and all the guests that have visited the park since November 2020.

We have enjoyed our stay and met some lovely people in that time , but its time to go and see what will be our next adventure.

WFRCoM April meeting summary

The Walkerville Foreshore Committee of Management met in the community hall on Thursday April the 15th.

WFRCoM discussed the following notable issues:

  • A decision was made that bookings for the next peak period covering Melbourne Cup weekend and Christmas will open at 9.00am on Saturday, 3 July 2021.
  • The committee gave a vote of thanks for the wonderful job Colleen and Glenn  have done as rangers and wish them well in their future ventures
  • The new rangers, Sandi and Gavin, will take on the role from the beginning of May to the end of July 2021. We would like to give them a warm welcome.
  • The 3 year ranger position will be advertised and a decision will be made about suitable applicants in that  time 
  • The reed bed for the septic tank of toilet block 2 will be planted out in the week after the Easter holiday

Release date for Summer peak and Melbourne Cup

Bookings for the Summer peak and Melbourne cup weekend will be available to book online from:

9am on Saturday July 3rd 2021

Applicable dates are as follow:

  • Melbourne Cup long weekend.  Oct 29 – Nov 2nd (4 night minimum)
  • December 26th  Boxing Day – January 31, including Australia Day long weekend. 

100% booking capacity will be available from September 1 onwards, unless overridden by future Covid 19 restrictions.

2022 Labour Day Weekend & Easter bookings

Due to an administrative error, several people have managed to make advanced bookings in the Camping Reserve for Labour day and Easter 2022. These bookings will be cancelled and refunded shortly. Bookings for these dates generally open on October 1st each year.

WFRCoM February meeting summary

The Walkerville Foreshore Committee of Management met in the community hall on Friday February the 19th.

WFRCoM discussed the following notable issues:

  • The current camping reserve rangers have advised the committee that they will be leaving at the end of April. The committee will seek legal advice on how to fill the positions temporarily from 1 May  to end August 2021 with the positions to filled permanently on a 3 year contract after that.
  • The upgrade and renovation of the reed bed for the septic tank of toilet block 2 seems to have been a success. The committee agreed that the same renovations would be carried out on the reed bed of toilet block 4 in the off peak season this year. Research will be carried out to determine which reeds would be best suited for both toilet blocks.
  • It was acknowledged that many of the washers and dryers in the toilet blocks at the camping reserve were in need of servicing or replacing. It was decided to investigate finding a local supplier/serve provider who could assist the committee in this.
  • There was a presentation made to the committee by Better Boating Victoria (BBV). BBV made the offer of conducting a workshop to explore ideas. The committee agreed to participating in such a workshop later in 2021.
  • Discussions are ongoing as to whether the committee is to engage a new foreshore manager and what roles and hours that person would have.

Covid Update – February 12 2021

CIRCUIT BREAKER ACTION - 5 Days

From 11:59pm tonight the Walkerville Foreshore Camping Reserve will remain open to support guests already staying onsite. However bookings for planned arrivals during this period will be cancelled and refunds will be offered.

Below is an excerpt from the Premiers Statement on February 12 covering areas pertinent to the camping reserve.

Victoria will move to circuit-breaker action from 11:59pm tonight until 11:59pm on Wednesday, 17 February.

That means there will be four reasons to leave your home: shopping for the things you need, care and caregiving, exercise and work, if it is essential.

Exercise and shopping will be limited to five kilometres from your home. If there’s no shops in your five-kilometre radius, you’ll be able to travel to the ones closest to you.

Face masks will need to be worn indoors and outdoors – whenever you leave home.

You won’t be able to have visitors to your home. And any public gatherings won’t be able to go ahead.

And as with Stage 4 restrictions, all non-essential retail will close, but essential stores like supermarkets, bottle shops and pharmacies will remain open. Cafes and restaurants will only be able to offer take-away.

Hotel and accommodation providers will be able to stay open to support guests already staying onsite. No new bookings can be made.

WFRCoM January meeting summary

The Walkerville Foreshore Committee of Management met in the community hall on Thursday Jan the 21st.

WFRCoM discussed the following notable issues:

  • Toilet Block 2 in the camping reserve
    The Toilet Block 2 septic system has had a strong odour coming from the reed bed.
    To minimise the problem in the short term the system has been emptied and dosed with a product to improve the biological performance of the system.  The showers are being locked between 11 am and 3 pm to minimise inputs. In early February the entire reed bed will be replaced and two additional external showers installed to encourage beach users not to use the internal showers. The possibility of providing a dump point for RV toilet cassettes is being explored because of the potential for cassettes to be illegally emptied into the septic systems and affect their performance. 
  • Camp Kitchen
     A grant has been sought and received for the construction of a Camp kitchen.
  • Walking Track rectification at Walkerville South.
     WFRCom has received a grant to fund repairs to the damaged track above 2nd beach. Approvals are being sought to commence this rectification as soon as possible.
 
  • Walkerville South Bollards.
    Safety bollards will be removed at the end of January, enabling boat launching from the beach from February the 1st. Signage has been updated to reflect this date.

After a long period of conducting meetings via Zoom due to Covid19, it was great to be able to meet again face to face.

Camping Reserve bookings Easter & Labour day long weekend

Bookings for the Labour Day long weekend AND Easter school holidays including the Easter long weekend, will open at 9am on Tuesday 22nd December.  This encompasses the periods from 6th to 8th March and 2nd to 18th April, 2021.

Bookings will continue to have availability capped at 60% of normal capacity to allow for reduced occupancy and physical distancing. The reduced capacity is being achieved by blocking off some sites. In the booking system, blocked sites will be indistinguishable from booked sites; both will appear in red as unavailable.  Further information as to how the reduced capacity will be achieved is available here.

Campers who had Easter 2020 bookings cancelled due to Covid-19 were given the opportunity to roll them over to Easter 2021. This in combination with the ongoing availability cap means that opportunities to book will be limited.

Due to Covid-19, the following arrangements are currently in place at Walkerville Foreshore Camping Reserve:

  • Everyone over 12 must wear a fitted face mask covering their nose and mouth when indoors or when physical distance cannot be maintained outdoors. Face masks will no longer be required outside as long as physical distancing can be maintained. 
  • Up to 100 people can gather in outdoor spaces such as public playground, BBQ areas, beach, kiosk, communal campfires etc while staying 1.5 metres apart
  • Communal facilities, including toilets, showers and BBQ’s, are open.
  • There is a Covid-19 declaration form attached to the reminder email that must be completed and returned before check in. Admission to the camping reserve is not permitted unless a signed declaration form has been returned.

The Covid-19 related requirements may change before the date of your planned stay at Walkerville Foreshore Camping Reserve.  You will receive an email prior to your arrival containing up to date requirements.

One person is permitted to book a maximum of two sites.

All bookings will be subject to cancellation or change by the Walkerville Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management Inc (WFRCoM).  In the event that a booking is cancelled by the WFRCoM, you will be entitled to a full refund.

All other government directives such as social distancing, not visiting the Reserve when unwell and personal hygiene/hand washing etc must be adhered to all at times.
