Overview

The Walkerville Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management (WFRCoM) is currently undertaking a Master Plan study to guide improvements to the foreshore between Walkerville Hall to the south and the Walkerville camping reserve kiosk to the north.  This new design work will join the Walkerville Hall and boat ramp design area already addressed through an earlier study.

The Master Plan will provide the Committee with an analysis of the site and issues affecting the long term development and management, along with high level concept design for the study area.  The project will address a wide range of issues related to the protection and enhancement of the coastal landscape while improving visitor access, parking, pedestrian safety and facility needs across the site. The stakeholder and community consultation process adopted for the project will inform the proposed design process and provide the Foreshore Committee with information and opinion that will assist and help to shape the decision making process.

The project will take place over four main stages:

Stages 1 – Analysis Key Issues (complete)

Stage 2 – Design Principles and Opportunities

Stage 3 – Draft Master Plan

Stage 4 – Final Master Plan

Tract Consultants (landscape architects, urban designers and planners) have been engaged by the Walkerville Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management to lead the design, consultation and engagement process.

Stage 1: Analysis and Key Issues – Drop In Session – COMPLETED

Consultation for this stage involved email and Facebook based comment and discussion with a range of key government and local stakeholders.

A first consultation session for the Walkerville Foreshore Master Plan was held on Saturday 8 July at the Walkerville Hall. It was a fantastic turn out full of engaging and informative discussion with members of the Walkerville community, regional residents and organisation representatives.

The drop in session featured a number of analysis maps of Walkerville to stimulate discussion and comment. Participants were invited to write their thoughts on post it notes and stick them to maps of Walkerville, or to comment in more detail on feedback forms or the project email contact point. This process allowed community members to share their vision with each other and the project team. Key analysis issues discussed included the environment, vehicle and pedestrian access, safety, visitor experience, support facilities, intensity of foreshore use, activity areas and landscape and visual quality.

The findings from this stage are summarised within the Master Plan project report that will be progressively developed through the course of the study, and made available on the project website at key stages.
