Overview
In late 2023 the Walkerville Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management (WFRCoM) commissioned Ecological Perspective to develop a vegetation management plan.
The objective of the plan was to assess the current state of known vegetation values and threats within the Walkerville Foreshore Reserve. Based on these findings, it has allowed the development of a plan with recommendations aimed at enhancing and sustaining these values, as well as improving visitor amenities. The resulting plan includes:
- a description of the site;
- a synopsis of flora (and fauna values) supported by the site;
- a description of threatening processes as they pertain to the described values;
- a management vision and objectives for the subject area;
- a précis of management strategies;
- and a set of proposed management actions that were designed to achieve the stated objectives.
WFRCoM has already used this vegetation management plan to guide a small pilot program, addressing weeds in a section of the Camping Reserve and and blackberries at the Southern end of Bayside Drive.
A more substantial project of vegetation management will commence throughout the greater reserve in the coming months.
